A Founder in Grief, Asking Her Community for Help

If you’re reading this, you probably came from the newsletter. Thank you for being here and for even considering stepping in while I manage my grief. This post lays out exactly what each volunteer role involves so you can make an informed decision before reaching out.

Diverse hands stacked together in unity, the sun casting a golden light behind them

Here are the key areas where help is needed, and what each one actually entails.

Coworking Session Hosting: 3 sessions needed

Coworking Wednesdays happen on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, from 9–11 am PT / 12–2 pm ET. The format follows the Pomodoro method: 25-minute focused work sprints broken up with short 5-minute social check-ins.

Duties: as host, you would arrive 5 minutes early to open the Zoom room and take over hosting duties, welcome members as they arrive, keep time, facilitate the transitions between work and chat segments, and close out the session. You don’t need to be an expert in anything; you just need to show up, hold space, and keep things moving.

Open dates:

  • February 18: hosted by Michelle Jackson
  • March 4: hosted by Dr. Analía Gomez Vidal
  • March 18: hosted by Yvonne Armenta

Total time: 2 hours per session.

Ideally, you would have attended at least one coworking in the past to understand the work/chat cycle.

Cafecito Hosting: 2 sessions needed

Cafecito Fridays happen on the 1st Friday of the month, from 8–9 am PT / 11 am–12 pm ET. It’s a casual, one-hour hangout. Think of it as a virtual coffee break where members catch up, share wins, and connect. There’s no formal agenda.

Duties: the host arrives 5 minutes early to open the Zoom room and take over hosting duties, gets conversation going, and makes sure no one feels like they’re talking into the void. Low stakes, high warmth.

Open dates:

  • March 6: hosted by Dr. Analía Gomez Vidal
  • April 3: hosted by Heidy De La Cruz

Total time: 1 hour per session.

Ideally, you would have attended at least one cafecito in the past.

March Workshop Promotion

The upcoming monthly workshop will be on March 19 at 4 pm PT. It will be an open Q&A/Ask Me Anything (AMA) with Johnny Flores of Flores Podcast Production. Flores Podcast Productions is a certified Small Business and Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise, trusted by clients including Visit Sacramento, Ear Hustle, Visit Vacaville, Comstock’s Business Magazine, the Southern Poverty Law Center, PRX, and more.

Duties: this role involves drafting and scheduling promotional content across our social channels in the weeks leading up to March’s workshop. You’d be working from existing templates and brand guidelines; Canva proficiency and design principles knowledge required. More details will be provided once a volunteer is confirmed.

Producing the Weekly Newsletter

LIP’s newsletter goes out weekly and keeps the community informed on events, resources, industry news, and community highlights. It’s written in a warm, direct, culturally-grounded voice with minimal jargon.

Duties: as a temporary producer, you’d be drafting newsletter content from a brief or outline provided by me, formatting it in Mailerlite, and scheduling it to send. Familiarity with email platforms is helpful; familiarity with the LIP community is even better. This would cover at least until the end of the month and likely through March.

How to Express Interest

If any of these roles feel like a fit, email me directly and let me know which one you’re interested in. NOTE THE SUBJECT LINE: add in which area specifically you’re interested in.

You will receive an out of office message, but I will be checking emails and follow up as swiftly as possible, hopefully by the end of the week.

Your willingness to show up right now is community in action and I’m incredibly grateful for everyone. Thank you. 💗
